How do I add carryover credit from my NAA requirement reporting period to my transcript for the 2023-2025 reporting period?
This FAQ is for attorneys who have the 2023-2025 reporting period as their first two-year reporting period and their last reporting period was their newly-admitted attorney (“NAA”) requirement reporting period.
If the 2023-2025 reporting is not your first two-year reporting period, and your last reporting period was the 2021-2023 reporting period, your carryover has already been added to your 2023-2025 transcript.
If you earned credits after your admission to the Illinois
bar and no later than June 30, 2023 that exceed your newly-admitted attorney requirement, you
have carryover credits that you can add to your transcript for the 2023-2025 reporting period.
You’ll find information below determining if you have carryover credit and, once you’ve determined you have them, you can use the step-by-step instructions below for adding them to your transcript or click here to view our video tutorial on how to add carryover credit to your transcript.
Helpful Tip: You can view all the CLE credits you’ve earned that have been reported to the MCLE Board since the fall of 2019 by selecting the View All Reported Credits option from the "I want to...” drop down menu that appears on the top right of your screen after you log in to the MCLE Board’s website.
Here’s how to determine if you have carryover credit from your NAA reporting period
First, ask...did I earn all of the credits to meet my NAA requirement before July 1, 2023? If yes, then ask…did I earn more credits than were required to meet my NAA requirement between my admission to the Illinois bar and June 30, 2023? If yes, then you have carryover from your NAA reporting period that you can add to your transcript for the 2023-2025 reporting period.
Under MCLE Rule 794, a maximum of 15 hours of credit, including 6 hours of professional responsibility PR credit which were earned in excess of the requirements for your NAA reporting period that were earned after your admission to the Illinois bar and before the start of your first two-year reporting period.
Steps to Add Carryover Credits
1. Log into your attorney account and click “My MCLE.”
2. Click the green “Add Carryover Credits” button in the Reporting Detail box.
3. Enter the total number of carryover credits you earned in your most recent reporting period. If any of those credits qualified as diversity/inclusion, mental health/substance abuse, or other professional responsibility credits, enter the appropriate number in each of the boxes.
4. Click “Submit.”
If you do not have a “Add Carryover Credits” button on your My MCLE page, you are not eligible to carry over credit into your current reporting period. For questions about your eligibility, please contact the MCLE Board at 312-924-2420
Any carryover credits you add to your transcript which are in excess of 6 PR credits, including diversity and inclusion (“D/I”) and mental health and substance abuse (“MH/SA”) credits will be automatically redistributed to general credits.
You should add your carryover credits to your transcript even if you have earned or will earn enough credits between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2025 to meet the 2023-2025 reporting period requirements.
Any carryover credits you add from your NAA reporting period will be used by our online system to determine if you earned more than the required credit for the 2023-2025 reporting period and also have carryover credit from the 2023-2025 reporting period which will be automatically added to your transcript for the 2025-2027 reporting period.
You can see an up-to-date estimate of your carryover credits for the 2025-2027 reporting period on your My MCLE dashboard page under the “Credit Calculations by Specific Type of Credit” heading on the page.
