How do I report my out-of-state exemption and pay my late fee for the 2022-2024 Reporting Period by the November 30, 2024 grace period credit reporting deadline?

If you were entitled to the out-of-state exemption for the 2022-2024 reporting period on June 30, 2024, your final deadline to report this exemption to the MCLE Board is 11:59 p.m. CST on November 30, 2024. Click here for more information on which attorneys qualify for this exemption. November 30, 2024 is also the deadline for you to submit the late fee for this reporting period.
  • If you timely entered and paid for a grace period extension because you had "not yet complied" with your Illinois MCLE requirements by the June 30, 2024 credit completion deadline and paid the $100.00 late fee with that report, no additional fee is due if you report your out-of-state exemption no later than the November 30, 2024 grace period credit reporting deadline.
  • If your transcript did not reflect that you achieved compliance on or before the June 30, 2024 credit completion deadline or you did not enter and pay for a grace period extension by the July 31, 2024 credit reporting deadline, then the late fee you owe is $250.00.

Reporting your out-of-state exemption and paying the late fee
Once you have determined you qualify for the out-of-state attorney exemption, here’s how to report that exemption to the MCLE Board and pay the late fee by 11:59 p.m. CST on November 30, 2024.

  1. Click here to go to our website’s attorney page. On the right side of that page, log in with your ARDC number and password.
    • Click here to retrieve your ARDC number from the ARDC website
    • Reset password: click Forgot/Create Password link directly below the password box

  2. Click the “My MCLE” button that will appear on that page after logging in.

  3. On the "My MCLE" page, look at the middle column. Near the bottom of that column click the "Report Exemption" button.

  4. On the "Report Exemption" page:
    • Under the question "What is your basis for an exemption from the 2022-2024 Reporting Period requirements?," click the caret in the box then select "Complied in Other State" from the dropdown menu.
    • Select the state in which you have or had your primary office or only office for at least 365 days of the July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024 Reporting Period, or on June 30, 2024.
    • Answer the question asking were you licensed to practice law in that state for at least 365 days of the July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024 Reporting Period, or on June 30, 2024?
    • Answer the next question about whether you were required to complete that state's MCLE requirements for the same period of time by clicking "Yes" or "No".
    • Check the accuracy of the information you chose on this page. When the information is correct, click "Submit".

  5. The system will then prompt you for payment of the late fee. Check the box to the left of the fee description and select "Pay selected fees by check" or "Pay selected fees by credit card".

If you select to pay by credit card, you will enter you payment information on the next page and hit "Submit".

If you elect to pay by mailing a check: (1) please print the PDF invoice generated when you choose "Pay selected fee by check" and include that invoice with your check payment; and (2) allow at least 10 business days for U.S. Mail - it may take longer. Payment is not applied to your account until the MCLE Board receives the check. Please consider a credit card payment or overnight delivery if you need the payment to be received and processed sooner.
