What if I didn't complete the 2023-2025 credits by the October 31, 2025 grace period credit completion deadline?
11:59 p.m. CDT on October 31, 2025 was the grace period (and final) deadline for you to complete earning all the credits required for the 2023-2025 reporting period to avoid removal from the Roll of Attorneys for MCLE non-compliance on December 1, 2025.
As required by Illinois Supreme Court Rule 796(e)(1), if you did not complete the credits required for the 2023-2025 reporting period by the October 31, 2025 grace period credit completion deadline, your name will be referred to the ARDC for removal from the Roll of Attorneys for MCLE non-compliance on December 1, 2025. The ARDC will then remove your name from the Roll on December 1, 2025. This referral and removal will automatically take place immediately after midnight on the morning of December 1, 2025.
This referral and removal will occur even if you complete all the MCLE requirements for the 2023-2025 reporting period after October 31, 2025 but before the December 1, 2025 removal date.
Please note that your removal from the Roll means that you cannot practice law using your Illinois license until reinstated, but it is not a disciplinary sanction. Rule 796(e). If you have questions about how your removal for MCLE non-compliance will affect your license, please contact the ARDC's Ethics Inquiry Program at (312) 565-2600.
However, if you do complete all your MCLE requirements before December 1, 2025 and all those credits are reported to the MCLE Board by November 30, 2025, your compliance with the requirements for 2023-2025 reporting period will be reflected on your transcript shortly after midnight CST on the morning of December 1, 2025.
At that time, you will also be able to log into your account on our website and pay the outstanding reinstatement fee that is assessed at the time of your removal from the Roll.
The reinstatement fee assessed when you are removed from the Roll is $500.00. If you previously requested and paid the $100.00 late fee for the grace period extension for the 2023-2025 reporting period, that $100.00 late payment will automatically be applied to the $500.00 reinstatement fee so you will only need to pay $400.00 when paying the reinstatement fee.
After you pay the reinstatement fee by credit card, the ARDC will automatically be notified of your compliance with your MCLE requirements for the 2023-2025 reporting period and that they should reinstate your name to the Roll that same day. Once the ARDC reinstates your name to the Roll for your compliance with the 2023-2025 reporting period requirements, our website will be updated to reflect your reinstatement to the Roll for this reporting period.
