How do I report my out-of-state exemption and pay my late fee for the 2019-2021 Reporting Period by the September 30, 2021 grace period extension deadline?

If you were entitled to the out-of-state exemption for the 2019-2021 reporting period on June 30, 2021, your grace period deadline to report this exemption to the MCLE Board is 11:59 p.m. CDT on September 30, 2021. Click here for more information on which attorneys qualify for this exemption. September 30, 2021 is also the deadline for you to submit the late fee this reporting period.
  • If you timely reported to the MCLE Board  that you had "not yet complied" with your Illinois MCLE requirements by the June 30, 2021 completion deadline, then the late fee you owe is $100.00.
  • If you did not submit a report to the MCLE Board by the July 31, 2021 reporting deadline, then the late fee you owe is $250.00.
Once you’ve determined you qualify for the out-of-state attorney exemption, here’s how to report that exemption  to the MCLE Board and pay the late fee by 11:59 p.m. CDT on September 30, 2021.
  1. Click here  to go to our website’s attorney page. On the right side of that page, log in with your ARDC number and password.
    • Click here to retrieve ARDC number from ARDC website
    • Reset password: click forget/reset password link directly below the password box
  2. Click on the “Report Now” button that will appear on that page after logging in.
  3. On the next page, details about the deadlines for 2019-2021 will display. Click the “Report Now” button below the box with those details.
  4. On the following page, check the box for “I have full exemption from the MCLE Requirement.”
  5. The next page asks you to select the basis for your exemption. Select the third option “Sole or primary office is in another MCLE state and fully compliant with earning the MCLE credits for that state for at least 365 days of the 07/01/2019 to 06/30/2021 reporting period or on 06/30/2021” then click “Next Page” to proceed.
  6. Read the page entitled “Certify your Report Below” then check the box to certify your report.
  7. Make certain that you reach the page entitled “Pending Fee Payment – Certification Not Submitted Until Payment Received.” On that page, you can choose to pay the late fee by credit card or by mailing a check. If you choose to pay the late fee by mailing a check with the invoice printed online, that check and invoice must be received by the MCLE Board no later than September 30, 2021.
After submitting your report and paying the late fee, you can print your MCLE Certification receipt for your records. Do NOT send that page or receipt to the Board unless we ask for it.
