What happens if my transcript fails to reflect compliance or I fail to report my out-of-state exemption and pay my late fee for the 2022-2024 reporting period on or before the grace period credit reporting deadline of November 30, 2024?

Supreme Court Rule(s) cited in this FAQ: Rule 796.

November 30, 2024 is the grace period credit reporting deadline. Your transcript must reflect your compliance by the grace period credit completion deadline of October 31, 2024 or your report of an out-of-state exemption, and you must pay your late fee by November 30, 2024. If you fail to achieve compliance as reflected on your transcript or report your out-of-state exemption, and pay the late fee by 11:59 p.m. CST on November 30, 2024, your name will be removed from the Master Roll for MCLE non-compliance on December 1, 2024. Removal means the attorney cannot practice law using their Illinois license until reinstated, but it is not a disciplinary sanction. Rule 796(e).

If your name is removed from the Master Roll for MCLE non-compliance, your license status with the ARDC will be "unauthorized to practice law." That status will be visible on the ARDC website's “Attorney Search” until you complete the steps to be reinstated to the Master Roll and are reinstated to the Master Roll.

If you placed your license on retired status after the June 30, 2024 completion deadline and were thereafter removed from the Master Roll for MCLE non-compliance, your status on the ARDC's website will read: “Retired - Removed and not authorized to practice law".
