All Illinois attorneys are required to report compliance, non-compliance or exemptions at the end of the attorney's two-year reporting period. The MCLE Board will mail a Certification Form to each attorney at the preferred mailing address on file with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. The Certification Form must be completed and returned to the MCLE Board by the Due Date on the form.

UPCOMING COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING DEADLINES
Attorneys with last names beginning A through M

Attorneys in the A-M compliance group need to complete their MCLE credits or be entitled to claim a valid exemption by June 30, 2010. Those attorneys then need to report to the MCLE Board by July 31, 2010. Details >

To report online, click the button "Attorneys Report Online." The MCLE Board has mailed certification forms as well. Failure to receive a paper certification form is not an excuse for failing to report on time. If an attorney who needs to report does not do so by July 31, 2010, the late fee is $150.00.

A-M attorneys who were removed for failing to comply with the MCLE requirements in a prior reporting period should read this first. Details>

This requirement does not apply to newly admitted attorneys who were sworn in to the Illinois bar on or after July 1, 2007.

Report by Mail or Report Online

Attorneys can choose to complete their Certification Form in paper or online. Paper replies should be sent by U.S. Mail or commercial delivery service. Click here to complete a Certification Form online. Details >

Compliance Late Fees and Reinstatement Fee

There is no fee for a timely-filed MCLE certification that reports compliance with the MCLE requirements.

Attorneys who fail to timely submit the required Certification Form or fail to timely comply with the MCLE requirements are subject to late fees and reinstatement fees pursuant to the Fee Schedule:

  • $100.00 - late fee for attorney who timely filed certification disclosing non-compliance;
  • $150.00 - late fee for attorney who failed to file timely certification;
  • $250.00 - reinstatement fee for attorney who has been removed from the Master Roll of Attorneys for failure to comply with the MCLE requirements or to report that compliance.

Temporary Exemption and Extension Requests

In rare cases and upon a clear showing of good cause, the Board has the authority to grant a temporary exemption from the MCLE requirements or an extension in which to comply with those requirements. The Court's MCLE Rules do not allow permanent exemptions or extensions. Good cause for a temporary exemption or extension may exist in the event of illness, financial hardship, or other extraordinary or extenuating circumstances beyond the control of the attorney. Requirements for Reinstatement

A removed attorney may earn the necessary credit hours during the removal period to meet the requirements for the years of noncompliance. An attorney may request reinstatement by submitting the appropriate form to the MCLE Board. A form to request reinstatement will be made available on the Board’s web site. A $250.00 reinstatement fee must also be paid to the Board. More >
