Important Considerations
  • This option is likely most suitable for the occasional course provider, or providers new to Illinois MCLE.
  • One course date, one application.
  • Applications may be submitted any time before the course but no more than 60 days after the course start date.
  • There is a $25.00 late fee for applications submitted on or after the course start date.

Step 1:  Download Form 1
Download Form 1 from the MCLE Board website - www.mcleboard.org.

  • The “Form 1” link to open the .pdf containing the instructions, application and remittance form.

Save the blank Form 1 fillable .pdf form to your computer.
  • Click on “File” then “Save Page As.”


  • Choose a name for your copy of the blank Form 1 and where you would like to save it.


  • 3) Click “Save.”


  • 4) Open your copy of the blank Form 1 and begin to complete the Form.

  • Please remember to choose law codes.  See instruction sheet, page 2 for all law codes.
  • An approximation of the expected number of attorneys versus non-attorneys is sufficient.
  • For a course to be accredited, the course provider MUST offer participants an evaluation form or use a third-party evaluator.
  • For a course to be accredited, written materials MUST be distributed at or before the course.

  • If you do not want your course published on our list of approved courses, check the DO NOT PUBLISH box.
  • Calculate the application fee (see the following slides on Calculating the Application Fee).  Important Note:  If you charge attorneys any fee for your course, the application fee is $50.00 and you must to pay the $1.00 per hour per Illinois attorney fee that is collected annually.
  • Make sure to read and check off the Provider Acknowledgement Box.  If this box is not checked, review of the application will be delayed.  The Court’s Rules are available on our website.
  • The provider representative should insert his or her name and the date at the bottom of Form 1.

  • Fee for Individual Course Providers…
  • Who DO NOT CHARGE an attendance fee to attorneys:
      • Bar association, professional organization & government entities - $30.00
      • Nonprofits offering courses or activities only to train volunteers providing pro bono services - $20.00
      • Lawyers Assistance Program - $20.00
  • Who DO CHARGE an attendance fee to attorneys - $50.00
  • Providers who submit an application on or after the course start date owe an additional $25.00 late fee.
  • Providers who DO CHARGE an attendance fee to attorneys are responsible for paying $1.00 per CLE hour for each Illinois attorney requesting CLE credit.  The fee will be collected by the MCLE Board in Spring of the following year.

Save Your Completed Form 1 to Your Computer
  • Click “File” then “Save As…”
  • Then choose the location to save your .pdf and a new name for the file.

  • All applications must be emailed with attachments, so make sure the attachments are electronic files.
  • Every MCLE Individual Course Application requires three attachments:
      • A timed agenda;
      • A faculty list; and
      • Either…
        • A 25-50 page sample of the written materials distributed at the program; or
        • A detailed outline.

The Timed Agenda
  • At minimum the timed agenda must show the starting & ending times of the course.
  • If the course involves more than a 1-2 hour session, then the agenda must also show any breaks or meals.
  • It is also helpful if the Provider marks which sessions he or she would like accredited, and for how much time.

Faculty Information
  • The main question:  what makes this person qualified to present at your program?
      • If the presenter is an attorney, please indicate and provide the attorney’s title and employer.
      • If the presenter is not an attorney, include any information that explains why this person is qualified to present on that topic.
  • General employment and business information is also helpful.

Sample Written Materials
  • The 25-50 page sample of written materials may include:
      • Power Point Presentation slides
      • A detailed outline distributed to participants
      • Handbooks, guidelines, case summaries or other prepared materials
      • Case law, statutes, or other legal materials are acceptable when accompanied by a written overview or summary.
  • A detailed outline must include at least 2-3 sentences for each session explaining the topic to be discussed.

  • A few things to know about the submission process:
  • The MCLE Board is a paperless office – only electronic submissions are considered.
  • All individual course applications must be sent to:  apps@mcleboard.org.
  • There is a 5MB limit per email.  If your total submission is more than 5MB, please consider either:
      • Zipping the files electronically; or
      • Splitting the submission into multiple emails.

Step 6:  Respond to Any Requests from the MCLE Board
  • All courses are reviewed in the order received.
  • Review of a course may take 4 to 6 weeks.
  • If any information or the application fee or late fee is missing, MCLE staff will send an email to the contact person indentified on Form 1, requesting the additional information and review will be delayed.
